Photography
I received my first camera when I was six years old, which was part of an adventure set. I can remember walking around for hours with the camera that didn’t even have any film in it, and capturing the images that I wanted through the framing of the camera and filing them in my head. I have been a student of photography ever since and I still find it as exciting as that first day.
As an artist I feel that I am on a journey to explore my own inner truth through a verity of differing subjects. These subjects can be seen as the conduit that bridges my own perception of reality with the rest of the world. Therefore enabling me to communicate with anyone that cares to view my work.
I have always been drawn to shape and form and the fact that any given subject can become a separate work of art in it’s own right by focusing on a particular part of the subject. Therefore creating a new interesting point that can appear completely separate from the whole. These new shapes and forms can then be used to tell a story from my own unique angle to give the viewer an insight into the world as I see it.
However I do not feel that it is my place to tell the whole story to the viewer and answer all their questions. Instead I like to create images that will ask questions of the viewer. This allows them to bring personal experiences to the work and therefore involving them in the artistic process. Through questioning themselves people can learn about their own personal view of the world around them.
It is this joint journey of discovery that really excites me about taking pictures and it is a process where I find I am always learning and growing within myself and with my environment.
I work only with film and not digital as I feel this is where the true art of photography lies. I like to capture what I am seeing at the time of the shoot and not use a computer to manipulate a false image. I believe that I am trying to express the truth according to me and that truth is all about the moment, which sometimes includes the things that you did not consciously want to show. The real truth about art is that it is not really about perfection, but I feel that it is a lot about instinct. You should learn to trust these instincts and allow them to help shape your images.
Patrick E Wood
01/06/1976
Manchester/Southampton (UK)
mix media on canvas
Patrick's Abstract work is created via a lengthy process of layering paint, dye, ink, metals, mild acids and other materials, then selectively sanding, scratching and grinding back sections of the final surface to reveal hidden layers. He draws his inspiration from childhood memories of events, aspirations, dreams and nightmares.
Paul Brown
30/07/1977
Manchester/Southampton (UK)
2D Digital print
Born in Salford, in 1977, in the midst of the British public’s dichotic taste battle between the anarchy and phlegm of punk rock, and the cheesy politeness of Abba, Paul Brown’s childhood was spent playing with his Transformer toys whilst images of boy George on ‘Wogan’ played in the corner of the living room. It is hardly surprising that he was to become fascinated with duality.

Paul’s art reflects a fascination with the awkward but often compelling co-existence between the continually shedding skins and disposable trends of modern day society and the foundations of human nature. An obsession with resurrecting the long discarded ‘next big things’ of popular culture is also a lynch-pin of Paul’s work.

Style-wise, Paul’s work has been described as Pop Art meets contemporary graffiti, together with images and humor reminiscent of Terry Gillian’s Monty Python animations; whilst the content confronts and challenges the stereotypical views and the general misconceptions and fears that surround alternative sub-cultures.

Warren Green

Oil/ Mixed media on board/ Stretched canvas
Warren is an exiting new young artist. He lives in the North West of England in a little village called Astley. He has recently completed a post graduate PGCE teaching qualification in Art and Design at Edge Hill College. He now teaches art in a local school.

Warren's love of art began at a very early age. He went on to study Art & Design at Wigan College for three years, he has become skilled in many areas of art and design, such as life drawing, painting, textiles, ceramics and photography. He now specialises in painting and drawing.

His fondness of painting in oils has enabled him to develop his own distinctive style. By using oil paints on board and stretched canvases, Warren produces colour and monochrome landscapes of sunsets and moon reflections over water in a variety of shapes and sizes. His use of moody and misty illusory reflections combines to produce wonderful calming compositions.

Whilst, in contrast, Warren also creates a varied range of wonderfully exciting artwork on canvas and textured board. Warren can produce various types of artwork for commission to a broad range of commercial fields, such as artwork for the home, hotels, bars, restaurants, apartments, hospitals and offices. Warren's artwork is fuelled by the use of imaginative ideas and dynamic colour studies. His artwork takes him on a limitless journey, as he is constantly developing new ideas and techniques to utilize in his artwork.

Warren's pieces are in great demand - his work is already held in private collections and he is already producing works to commission and is surely a name to watch out for in the future. Warren can also be contacted at, thegreenartgallery@yahoo.co.uk
